Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, organized, and hands-on Boatyard Foreman to lead our service team and oversee daily operations. This is a working-lead position; the ideal candidate is a master of maritime logistics and a technical expert in fiberglass and gelcoat repair. You must be comfortable transitioning from managing a crew to personally performing high-end composite touch-ups and structural repairs. You will ensure that vessels are hauled, serviced, and launched safely while maintaining the highest standard of craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Expert Fiberglass & Composite Repair
- Hands-on Execution: Personally perform fiberglass repairs, including grinding, glassing, fairing, and structural core work.
- Cosmetic Finish: Execute high-quality gelcoat touch-ups, color matching, and multi-stage buffing/polishing to restore vessels to like-new condition.
- Project Oversight: Ensure all repairs meet structural integrity standards.
2. Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and mentor a crew of technicians, painters, and yard hands.
- Schedule daily tasks and manage workflow to ensure projects stay on budget and on schedule.
- Enforce strict safety protocols (OSHA and environmental), with a focus on PPE compliance for grinding and chemical handling.
3. Yard Logistics & Operations
- Direct the hauling, blocking, and launching of vessels using Travelifts, forklifts, and hydraulic trailers.
- Maximize yard space efficiency through strategic vessel placement.
- Manage inventory of resins, catalysts, cloth, and finishing compounds to prevent project delays.
4. Quality Control & Project Management
- Conduct final inspections on all work—especially hull repairs—before a vessel is cleared for launch.
- Liaise with the Service Manager to provide accurate labor/material estimates and progress updates for clients.
